When Arlo was younger I used to prefer to travel during his nap times and later on at night so that he would sleep most of the way. Sometimes I will stay overnight and otehr times we will pause for just a couple of hours. It’s worth going off teh motorway and avoiding the service stations which are not the best place for younger children to run around. We have found some lovely childrens farms, picnic spots, woodlands and attractions to explore. I also love geocaching and Pokemon Go. If you have any annual memberships such as a National Trust pass then take full advatage of these.

Avoid sharing personal information with strangers and be wary of potential hazards in crowded areas. If there are wrist bands then you can always add your mobile number to these with a sharpie. Make sure your children are familiar with the uniform colours of the staff and how to find a police officer or show them where a safe place such as a lost children tent is so they know where to go in an emergency situation. Don’t forget not to drink water from streams and unsafe water sources too. Insect repellents and suncream are essential for summer travel too.
