This festive season, Webbs of Wychbold invites you to step into a magical world inspired by Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland. The Webbs Enchanted Garden Christmas Light Trail 2024 brings this beloved tale to life in the stunning Riverside Gardens, creating an unforgettable experience for families, friends, and anyone seeking a touch of whimsy. Every inch of the garden has been carefully incorproated in to the trail, from the chess board on the pathway of the river salwarpe to the fantastical forest animals in the woodland.
From the moment you enter, you’ll feel like Alice herself, tumbling down the rabbit hole into a glowing wonderland. This year’s trail is dedicated entirely to Carroll’s enchanting world, blending festive cheer with scenes straight from the pages of the book. We chose to dress up, Paloma as Alice, Arlo as the mad hatter and myself as the Queen of Hearts just for some extra fun at one of our favourite light trails to visit.
A Journey Through Wonderland
“It’s no use going back to yesterday, because I was a different person then.” These famous words will echo through your mind as you wander the trail, discovering iconic moments from Alice’s adventures brought to life with giant lanterns, dazzling fairy lights, and glowing displays. There are some familiar installations if you have been in previous years, storybooks line the trail with short extracts telling the story, and the elf workshop is still there too. I must give a nod to the creative team who work all year round to bring the garden to life each christmas.
Along the way, you’ll encounter some of Carroll’s most beloved characters. The Mad Hatter’s tea party is a feast for the eyes, with lantern-lit cups, teapots, and cakes suspended in the air, reminding us that “it’s always tea time.” Nearby, the mischievous Cheshire Cat grins down from the trees, his stripes glowing in the dark.
As you cross over the rainbow bridge (my favourite feature in previous years) you’ll find yourself transported to the Queen of Hearts’ domain, complete with glowing roses and card soldiers standing guard. Follow the path deeper into Wonderland, where the White Rabbit beckons you onward, his pocket watch reminding him that he is very late for his important date and making us all giggle.
Perfect for Festive Photographs
Every corner of the trail is a picture-perfect scene, ideal for capturing festive photographs. The Rose Garden, lit with glowing red and white roses, is a nod to the Queen of Hearts’ iconic demand to “paint the roses red.” The Fairy Garden sparkles with a Wonderland twist, offering magical backdrops that will make your photos unforgettable.
For families, the White Rabbit’s burrow is a must-see spot, while the illuminated Snowy North Pole section adds a touch of Christmas magic to this whimsical journey.
A Magical Christmas Event
The Webbs Enchanted Garden is more than just a light trail—it’s an immersive storytelling experience that delights visitors of all ages. Families with small children will love spotting hidden details, such as the mossy bed of the sleepy Dormouse or the glowing toadstools dotted along the trail. There’s even an optional extra stop to visit Santa’s snow-covered workshop, where little ones can meet Father Christmas in a setting straight out of a storybook. Whether you’re an avid fan of Alice in Wonderland or simply looking for a magical evening to kick off the holiday season, this trail offers something truly special.
