I just have to write a blog about how much we love shopping on Instagram. As a small business owner myself I know how much effort people put in to their crafts and how hard it has been this year to work around delivery delays, supply chain issues and working from home with children in the middle of a pandemic.
I buy a lot of Arlo’s clothing from small businesses on Instagram, as well as toys and room decor and all sorts of other bits and bobs. The beauty is that things can be made to measure and incorporate custom colours and even sizes too. I love that Arlo has some bespoke pieces which are unique in every way possible.
Whenever I take a picture I try to tag the business owners and so if you’re scrolling through our Instagram account then you can check the tags to find out where his outfit is from, and if I forget then please drop me a comment and I can find out for you. It’s through Instagram that I have met a group of people who like myself are also fans of buying handmade.
There’s a wonderful community called “addicted to handmade” which has a Facebook group with thousands of members. Click the logo below to join:
This group has all sorts of different amazing activities – you can find outfit inspiration, get the news of product launches and sneak peeks, exclusive discount codes and even participate in pre loved buying and selling. Handmade clothes retain a lot of value and will always be appreciated by others so I often de-stash myself and then use the funds to feed our addiction and top up our wardrobe.
The best bit however I’ve saved until last. The swap box is essentially a secret Santa type arrangement. Every so often the team organise a group of us and allocate us a budget and a person to buy for. I have been participating for over a year now and it’s all done via an app. You create a wish list with your details including your child’s clothing size and details such as colour preferences and allergies and then you can go and shop until you drop for someone else.
You send off your parcel before the deadline and then also receive a box of goodies from a mystery elf in return. Every single time I have received a box I have been overwhelmed. But today opening my Christmas 2020 box was just next level! My elf wrote a beautiful card explaining that we have entirely different tastes but that she enjoyed putting everything together – I have received some beautiful items from new shops which I wouldn’t have discovered without this event and this group and I couldn’t have chosen better items myself!
One more thing – being part of the group gives you access to exclusive market night events. This is where businesses are invited to showcase offers and discounts for one night only. This can be last chance offers or exclusive launches or the best prices on best sellers, or even one off/ limited items which are sold to the first person to comment. You never know what’s going to crop up so I always settle down with my phone and get ready to claim items. There’s always some bargains to be had.
I’m going to try and make more of an effort to share more information about our purchases and share our experiences with you all. Before you know it you’ll be just as addicted as me!
